Rude Bakkendorf Watches: A Fusion of Tradition and Innovation
Rune Hjorth Bakkendorff is an independent Danish watch- and clockmaker renowned for his fusion of traditional craftsmanship with innovative design. Graduating with top honors from the Danish School of Watch- and Clockmaking, he received the Silver Medal from the Copenhagen Association of Craftsmen, the highest accolade for newly trained journeymen.
Bakkendorff's career includes experience in Switzerland, where he worked for A. Lange & Söhne, Glashütte Original, and ultimately for Thomas Prescher. There, Rune was able to dive deep into the world of high horology. As is the case in nearly every engineering discipline, this hands-on experience in workshops provided Rune with a broad foundation across design, manufacture, and finishing for his future watchmaking journey.
After his time in Germany, Bakkendorf returned to Denmark. In his Charlottenlund workshop, he crafts ultra-creative wristwatches and clocks, conceptualizing, constructing, and crafting small series and unique pieces to the highest standards. His notable works include the "Byrja," his first serially produced watch, and the "Ætt," inspired by a 1919 turret clock mechanism by Danish clockmaker Jens Olsen.

Beyond watchmaking, Bakkendorff has collaborated on projects like the "Moonwork" pendulum clock, a sculptural piece that challenges traditional perceptions of time by displaying lunar cycles instead of hours and minutes.

As vice-alderman of The Watch- and Clockmakers Guild of Copenhagen and a member of The Danish Guild of Antique-Conservation, Bakkendorff continues to contribute to the preservation and evolution of Danish horology.

Rune Bakkendorff stands out as a rising talent in independent watchmaking, merging Danish heritage with refined mechanical artistry. His work reflects a rare balance of craftsmanship, innovation, and thoughtful design—offering collectors something truly personal and distinctive.
